Since 1945, Sambuca Molinari has been an enduring legacy, crafted with passion and expertise by Angelo Molinari, a skilled perfumer turned liqueur artisan in Civitavecchia. His creation, Sambuca Extra, remains a closely guarded secret recipe, renowned for its unmistakable star anise flavor that has graced tables globally. Originally embraced by Rome’s Via Veneto restaurateurs in the 1940s, it soon became synonymous with elegance and glamour, epitomized in Federico Fellini’s iconic film, La Dolce Vita.
Celebrities, including Frank Sinatra, enthusiastically endorsed Sambuca Molinari, which led to its meteoric rise in popularity. By 1967, Angelo’s sons, Marcello and Mafalda, expanded operations, establishing Molinari Sud SpA in Colfelice in 1974. This advanced facility marked a technological milestone, capable of producing 60,000 bottles daily to meet global demand.
Following Angelo’s passing in 1975, his children continued his legacy, driving Molinari to international renown throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Today, beyond its excellence in liqueur, Molinari remains committed to philanthropy through the Angelo Molinari Foundation, supporting medical and charitable initiatives worldwide since 2006.
